The Fall Fashion Transition

Don’t get me wrong; I love summer.

I love the beach. I love warm weather. I love not having to carry a jacket. But none of those things I like will ever change the fact that autumn is my favorite season.

Besides my affinity for pumpkin, I just feel like I know how to dress for fall. It’s easy. You can layer. And layering covers a multitude of sins. In the summer, you have to nail your outfit in three pieces or less because it is just too darn hot to wear any more than that.

And while I can appreciate good editing, sometimes you just want a little bit more.

Of course, when you’re trying to save money, you don’t exactly want to splurge on an entirely new wardrobe every time the weather gets a little cooler. So today, we’re talking how to take your trendy summer favorites into the next season. (I know, I know, you hate me for rushing you through summer. Just think of this as your excuse to invest in these summer pieces now.)

Specifically, we’ll examine a patterned sun dress, a coral maxi, and mint skinny jeans.

Let’s go!

1. The patterned sun dress.

I started with a basic Dorothy Perkins Blue Stripe Dress in one of my favorite good-for-any-season patterns, stripes. To fend off a chill, throw on a classic cardigan, like this Mak Charter School Cardigan in Honey. Protect your stems with a cute pair of tights, like this ADORABLE pair of It Seams I Love You Tights, and then pop on a pair of low heels, like these Ivanka Trump Indicon pumps. Add a statement necklace in a complementary color (like this Kate Spade New York Treasure Chest Statement Necklace) for a dash of sparkle.

2. The coral maxi dress.

Who doesn’t love a good maxi? Perfect for literally every occasion, PLUS they are super flattering on almost everyone. I chose this ASOS Maxi Dress With Triple Strap Back Detail in summer’s hottest shade, coral. To make it seasonally appropriate, I recommend a warm jacket, like this ASOS Premium Diamond Quilt Leather Jacket, and a pair of substantial shoes, like the Frye Harlow Campus Bootie. Throw on a cross-body bag, like the Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Natasha Bag, and a Hammered Rose Gold Concave Cuff and you have the perfect mix of girlie girl and don’t-mess-with-me toughness for fall.

3. Mint skinny jeans.

Mint skinny jeans (like these Dorothy Perkins Peppermint Superskinny Jeans) were featured on virtually every blog starting in the spring, and I don’t see any reason to tuck them in the closet now that fall is approaching. Simply add a long-sleeve shirt, like this ASOS Shirt With Solid And Sheer Panels, and a cozy Bb Dakota Women Erica Faux Fur Vest to keep your top half comfortable. A pair of Hunter Boot Regent Carlyle Boots
are also seasonally appropriate (and perfect for any rain or early flurries you might encounter), and a MARC BY MARC JACOBS ‘Henry’ Rose Gold Chronograph Watch finishes off the look.

So there you have it! Which look are you saddest to leave behind this fall?
