The Month of the Revamp

You guys. October first. Amiright?

I don’t know what it is about the end of the year, but for whatever reason, money has been tight for a lately.

I’d love to be able to blame holidays or something, but that isn’t it for us. In our case, I think it’s a mixture of the fact that I had to go three weeks without a paycheck after starting the new job, that rent is due today, and I have to buy a new train ticket for the month.

Plus, the whole we-live-in-an-expensive-city thing. Stinkin’ New York.

Don’t get me wrong; we can cover all these things. But we’re also on a kick to get all our debt paid off in the next couple of years. And when you have that hanging over your head, it means pretty much every dollar you earn is already spent. An that can be disheartening.

Especially, you know, when all you really want is this coat:

And this bag (though apparently it might not be available anymore??):

I mean, seriously, it’s all I want. Ok, and maybe a pair of shoes like these:

But that’s it!

The point is, though, none of those purchases are happening for a while. Because I’m a grown-up. With grown-up priorities. Or something. *grumble*

But it’s not all doom-and-gloom! I’ve said before that going without something is the best way to get creative with what you have, and I think this is the perfect opportunity to prove that true.

So I’m declaring October the Month of the Revamp. My plan is to take only what I already own and find ways to turn it into something new and awesome. Should be fun, right?

I’m hoping to have at least one project a week. I also want to do a big fall cleaning to clear out clutter and simplify what we have. (I’ve already started a pile of books to donate, which, if you know me and my obsession with amassing a huge book collection, you know is a big deal.)

By November, I plan to be a whole new girl. (Without my bank account reflecting the change.)

I also have my third half marathon this weekend, so please send any good running vibes my way.

I’m excited for this project! And I’m looking for inspiration. (I’m super inspired by this blog post about three ways to revamp a cardigan. Y’all know I love a cardigan.

So share your best revamp/remake/restyle DIYs in the comments! And stay tuned. Because everyone loves a makeover, right?

  1. Girl you gotta stop looking at those shopping sites and sharing them for that matter. I’ve no money either. I can’t wait to see what you revamp this season. I’m not so lucky being my arse has gotten fatter and nothing fits anymore… I’m making it a plan to buy 1 thing only each week (if possible) until I have enough to do something with, lmao…UGH!

    • Shopping sites are my crack. But at least I look at a lot fewer of them now that I unsubscribed from a million newsletters. Couldn’t bear to part with J. Crew though…sigh.
